Scouting with the Storm

Look for the sign-up sheet at this week's meeting.  Saturday, December 13th Tri-City Storm vs. Waterloo at the FirsTier
Event Center.  Special 3:05 Start Time with doors opening at 2:00.  Special discount for Scouts and families - $9.00
ticket with $1.00 going back to support local Scouting in the Overland Trails Council. Seating is assigned as orders are processed.  $1.00 extra buys you a special event patch.  Parking is included in the price of the ticket this year!
Select Scouts will be involved in the pre-game and intermission activities.  Call Erik at 308-440-2641 if interested in singing
the National Anthem (group or solo) or presenting the colors at pre-game.

Severe Weather
In the event of severe weather please listen to or be watching our local radio/TV stations for cancellations. If the North Platte public schools have been canceled or are dismissed early then scouts will be canceled that evening as well.

Lost & Found
Our lost and found collection is growing and we need to eliminate it. Please look and see if any items are yours, all remaining items will be given to scouts that want them or gifted to Goodwill.

Firewood Available
Our firewood chairpersons are Mike and Shellie Slaba.  Phone:  534.7934.  We will direct all wood orders to them to handle. We will need volunteers who will be available to help cut, load and deliver wood.  If you are willing to do so, please give Mike and Shellie your phone number and the days/evenings that work best for you to deliver.  We will be trying to set up some work
dates to go cut and stack wood so when the winter months arrive and people start calling for wood, we will have it ready to go. The price of firewood will still be $75 for all in town deliveries and $85 for delivery to towns surrounding North Platte.

Troop 293 Uniforms

Please remember the first Thursday of each month is inspection night.  During the school year, class A uniforms are to be worn during the meetings.  We also need to represent our troop properly on any outside function/field trip by wearing our class A uniform, unless told otherwise.  During the summer months, class B uniforms are acceptabe to wear every Thursday, with the exception of inspection night when your Class A uniform is required.  The class B uniform is shorts and any of Troop 293 or summer camp t-shirts.

Also, please wear your Class A uniforms if you are going for a BOR.

Summer Camp 2009
We need all boys to research area summer camps for next year. Although it seems a long way off, the boys will need to present their findings and vote on one.  Most camps need to be reserved by the end of the year, which is now only a few
months away. We are also in need of an adult who would like to volunteer to be in charge of this task as soon as possible.

Eagle Scout Training Class

If you are working towards your Eagle scout rank and are close to the Life rank, you will need to contact Russ at the scout
office and sign up for the Eagle scout training class prior to starting his Eagle scout project.  The class is only offered once a year, so plan early.

100 Years and Going Strong

Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting!

Make plans now to be a part of the National Celebration of Scouting by attending the 2010 National Jamboree to be held at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia. Any boy scout who has completed 6th grade or is at least 12 years old and a First Class Scout by July 1, 2010 can attend, but you must not have reached your 18th birthday by September 1, 2010. Also must be active in the
troop for at least six months prior to July 1, 2010 and obtain Scoutmaster approval.

Travel Events

Shellie Trotta has volunteered to prepare our tour permits for all travel events. If you ever plan on driving to any kind of event, please e-mail the following information to her:

  • kind, year and make of vehicle
  • number of passengers
  • owner's name
  • driver's license number
  • insurance (each person, each accident, property damage)

Noise Levels

Parents should try to meet in another room or maybe go enjoy a cup of coffee/pop uptown during the meeting.  We will respect our boys by not attending the meetings unless we are asked to be there with the exception of the announcement portion (we will be silent).  Thanks for your understanding.
